Payment services providers want full Sand Dollar integration

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]As the Central Bank of The Bahamas continues its rollout of its newest digital dollar, payment services providers (PSPs) say moving forward it is their hope to have the Sand Dollar fully integrated with their platforms, making it the currency of choice for Bahamians.

“The Sand Dollar application is really only a reference and what that means is, it’s not available for public consumption. We want to integrate the Sand Dollar into the Kanoo platform. We are working with the Central Bank’s professionals to making that happen and once that occurs you will then be able to see Kanoo and Sand Dollar operating seamlessly, such that Sand Dollar would fulfil its intended purpose, which is to act as a digital currency,” Kanoo Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Keith Davies said in an interview with Guardian Business.

“So, the physical paper dollar in your hand, Sand Dollar is the digital currency on your platform and that platform will be Kanoo. So that’s the way forward as it relates to digital currency and then it will become seamless in terms of transacting, using the Kanoo platform and the Sand Dollar.”

Davies’ company Kanoo participated in a staff onboarding event at the Central Bank on Monday.… Read the rest

According to Keith Davies, chief executive and chairman of Kanoo, the country’s newest digital wallet told Eyewitness News Online that since the company’s formal launch on December 9, the company has attracted 1,100 users and more than 90 merchants.

Kanoo’s largest merchant partner is Super Value.

“We moved from concept and demonstration to actually being accountable to the individual user,” Davis said.

“We’re just shy of a month now since our formal launch and today we have over 1,100 users. The activity level and the interest level continues to grow.”

Davies credited Kanoo’s co-founders Nicholas Reess and Nathan Horn for setting the foundation for the company’s emergence.

He continued: “We started with Super Value which has 13 locations across New Providence. It is the place where you effectively onboard and this year will be able to onboard fiat current.

More than 1,000 sign up for Kanoo digital payments app

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]More than 1,000 Bahamians have already downloaded the country’s newest digital payments mobile app, less than one month since it was formally launched.

On average, 70 to 100 new users download the Kanoo app every day, which was launched on December 9, Kanoo’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Keith Davies revealed.

“Formally we launched on December 9. We were in beta testing before and I can tell you that as of last night (Monday) we had 1,030 users on our platform. So, we see 70 to 100 users onboarding every day and persons are becoming more comfortable with it. We’ve seen several tens of thousands of transactions just at Super Value alone, and so that was our main vendor that we launched in,” said Davies.

Kanoo is one of a few digital wallet service providers that allow for cashless and cardless transactions with the country’s new digital currency.

Currently, Kanoo’s biggest merchant partner is Super Value.

“Just to make it very clear, Super Value is effectively our bank, because that’s where you can onboard your money onto Kanoo and in the new year you will be able to withdraw that money from Super Value,” Davies said.

“To give you a very real life example, at six o’clock in the evening you can walk into Super Value with $400, put it on your Kanoo app in your phone, you can then send $200 to somebody in Abaco or Freeport and they can walk over to, let’s say in Freeport Express Foodmart, which is one of our agents, and they can withdraw that money.… Read the rest

Payment Provider Targets 50% Of Mobile Consumers

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]A Bahamian digital payments provider yesterday said it is aiming to sign up 2,000 merchants and half the country’s mobile phone users when it goes “fully live” before year-end 2019.

Keith Davies, Kanoo’s chairman and chief executive, told Tribune Business that its app-based product will ultimately be adopted “in every corner store in this country – big, small and medium – if we have our way and do this well”.

Revealing that Kanoo is now in the final “beta testing” stages, after spending some two years in development, Mr Davies said the FinTech (financial technology) start-up had received “overwhelming” support from all businesses for a concept that aims to provide an electronic “bridge” to consumers via their cell phones.

He added that Kanoo’s platform, which will first be rolled-out through Super Value’s 13 stores, aims to provide the Bahamian private sector with instant payment certainty while also eliminating the costs and risk associated with handling large amounts of cash.

Mr Davies said it will also provide “analytics” and data on how and when their consumers shop, and how much they spend, as well as allowing companies to communicate directly with them and offer incentives such as gift/loyalty cards.

From the consumer’s standpoint, he added that Kanoo will offer improved convenience, choice and access to financial services through the ability to instantly load money into an electronic wallet and conduct transactions.… Read the rest
