Seeing the Bigger Picture

Meet the Merchant Owner: Gennyne Ellis Hepburn Company: Big Picture Sip & Paint Studio Motto: “Paint, Sip, Go and Have Fun ” Life can get hectic at times, even overwhelming. As adults, I’m sure most of us have felt like this at some point. But we must find time to take a break. Gennyne Ellis Hepburn has always enjoyed art and design. She began sharing that love with others when opening Big Picture Paint & Sip Studio in Sandyport four years ago. She knows firsthand the power of giving someone a blank canvas.

What’s a blank canvas?

A blank canvas gives you the chance to start anew.

A blank canvas is an opportunity to create freely.

And, a blank canvas has endless possibilities.

“We all need an outlet, and I’ve found that art is a good one that fosters creativity and freedom for many. The products and paint and sip services offered here at Big Picture allow you to create new memories by doing something fun and different. Many who have visited our studio have described their experience as relaxing, fun, engaging, and fulfilling,” she explained. Ellis Hepburn revealed that in the beginning, scheduled paint nights only took place a few nights per week.

Finding The “Love” In Fitness

Meet the Merchant Owner & Director: Tangerine Curry-Dinnick Company: Evolve Functional Fitness Motto: “Find the Love” Tangerine’s love for education, fitness, and helping people have transcended into Evolve Functional Fitness. The former teacher made it her mission to create a place where families can come and work out without any excuses, after noticing a startling trend among the youth. “I wanted to do my little part to give back by creating a space that could help to change this alarming obesity rate that we have here in The Bahamas. Our kids are reportedly number one in the region, and approximately number five in the world. That’s why I’ve made a point to incorporate a program just for home-school kids,” she explained. “As a teacher by profession, I still wanted to educate, but this time around, the focus would be on fitness. The beauty of functional training, which we offer at Evolve, is that it’s something that everyone can do, from the day you are born until you are 110.” Tangy says the name Evolve speaks to not only her fitness journey but that of her clients who use the Rosetta Street and Montrose Avenue facility. She tried out a few other names, but that’s the one that stuck.

Beyond Beauty

Owner: Nicole Woodside & Vanessa Musgrove
Company: Nicole’s Hair & Beauty Supplies
Motto: “Accessorize from Head to Toe”

As a youngster, I learned from my parents that if you work hard early, your life will be easy, and if you work hard late, your life will be hard.

So, at just 15 years old, I aspired to be a business owner, like my parents.

Despite having very little formal education, I was amazed at their ability to own and operate successful operations.

Both came from very humble beginnings. My father, a descendant of Abaco, purchased the popular clothing store, Christine & Johnny’s, and ran it for nearly 30 years. And, my mother, a descendant of Lovely Bay, Acklins, opened a beauty supplies store Nicole’s.

And while my father was reluctant for me to join his business, my mother, on the other hand, embraced it.
I opened my East Street and Andros Avenue location at 19 years old. My sister, Vanessa, followed in our footsteps, opening her East Street location thirteen years ago.

If you were to pass by any of our stores, you would notice each location is unique, a style that’s reflective of our personalities.… Read the rest
